2008 North Coast Regional Regional Wrap-up
Co-hosted with Ohio Valley Chapter 10 REGIONAL 2008 Summary On March 7 and 8, Chapters #28 - Lake Erie and #10 - Ohio Valley, put together the North Coast Regional at the Holiday Inn at Strongsville, Ohio. Over 190 tables were sold and many folks were in attendance on Friday when the doors opened. The selling and buying was going quite well. The Silent Auction was up and running, too. The three lectures: "Repairing Veneer" by Dave Gorrell; "British Tall Case Clock Movements" by Tom Spittler; and "Calendar Clocks" by Joel Warren, were all attended by sizable crowds. Then around 2 PM on Friday, we noticed some folks were packing up to leave. When asked why, they said they wanted to get home before the big storm due that evening. The storm did come, but not as expected. Saturday started off with a nice buffet breakfast banquet around the pool, with National Executive Director Steven Humphrey as guest speaker. The sun was shining and the morning started off well. Then we got word that the big storm that was due the night before was in-fact coming on Saturday. More of the table holders packed up and left. By 1 PM there were very few table holders left. Those of us who had to stay to clean up or close down, also stayed another night in our hotels or motels. When I awoke on Sunday morning at the hotel, my car, as well as others, was a mere bump under the deep snow. As far as the Regional of 2008 is concerned, Mother Nature dealt us a heavy blow in our attendance and the chapter's pocketbook. -----------Ginny Sims, secretary |
